Hey guys, I’m on the hunt for a new hiking mat. Right now, I’m just using a foam mat but it takes up a lot of space. Been eyeing the Sea to Summit Ultralight. Seems like it’s got good reviews and it’s not too heavy. Anyone got one? Is it comfy?

Also, there’s an insulated version of the Sea to Summit mat. Is it worth getting? My sleeping bag is already pretty warm, so I’m wondering if the insulation is overkill.

What do you guys think? Any other mats I should check out?

Oh and please recommend a mat I can actually get here in Australia. I’ve seen some cool options online, but heaps of them aren’t available here.

        Hey Herston,

I’ve got the ultralight insulated mat and it’s been great for me. Super comfy and packs down small, so it’s not a hassle to carry around. As for the insulation, I looked it up, and the insulated version is only about 100 grams heavier than the non-insulated one. So, a little bit heavier but I think the insulation’s worth it, especially if you ever decide to go on hikes during the colder months. Even with a warm sleeping bag, a good insulated mat can make a real difference in keeping you toasty.
