In the interest of getting some content up on the new forum, I agreed to review some outdoor gear I’ve been using for a while. In this case, it’s the Macpac Geothermal top.
I’ve had this top for about 3 years, and it’s still doing its job. It’s warm and comfy, which is what you want when you’re out in the bush. It’s also super easy to wash and it dries quickly. It’s showing signs of wear, but no holes.
But here’s the thing: while it’s good, I find it’s not as good as merino when you’re actually walking. I find I get sweaty and uncomfortable walking in this material once my body temperature warms up. I’ve therefore switched to merino base layers for my hikes but still use the Macpac Geothermal for sleeping.
So, in short, it’s a solid choice but maybe not your best bet for more active days out. What’s everyone’s go-to base layer these days?
