In the interest of getting some content up on this new forum, I’ve agreed to review a bunch of hiking gear I’ve been using for a while. Today, I’m talking about the Mont Odyssey Women’s Jacket.

First off, this jacket is designed for the tough Australian conditions we all know and love (or sometimes hate?? 🙂 ). It’s made from Hydronaute Pro 3 Layer fabric, which is waterproof, windproof, and breathable. I’ve worn it in some pretty wild weather, and it’s held up like a champ.

The YKK AquaGuard Zips are a nice touch. They’re water-resistant and eliminate the need for those bulky storm flaps. The jacket also has pit zips for ventilation, which I LOVE.

But what I really appreciate is the jacket’s longer length. It’s ideal for bushwalking and keeps you covered down to the mid-thigh. Pair it with some shorts and gaiters, and you’re good to go, no matter the weather.

The hood is adjustable with drawcords and a shapeable wire brim. I found it super useful in heavy rain, and it didn’t obstruct my view, which is a big plus.

However, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. The jacket is a bit on the heavier side, weighing in at around 700 grams. This means I’m reluctant to pack it if rain isn’t forecast. However, for wet weather hiking, I think it’s a great option. The other main downside is the price (around $700). This one was a bit of a splurge for me.

So, what’s my verdict? If you’re after a robust, waterproof, and breathable jacket made for Aussie conditions, the Mont Odyssey is a solid choice. It’s a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for.

Would love to hear your thoughts. Anyone else tried this jacket?? 👍
